Hail Storm and Warm Weather??

We are still feeling the effects from the Hail Storm that rolled through Arizona last October.  It is extremely important to have your unit checked out to ensure that it obtained no damage.  We have found in past jobs that the coil fins were damaged so badly that the unit had to be replaced.  The coil in your air conditioner works very much like the radiator in your car, by removing the heat from your home.  The coil has many fins that are made from thin sheets of aluminum bonded to copper tubing.  When the fins become damaged (bent) in anyway it reduces the air flow, resulting in your unit not working as efficiently or performing as it should.  These fins are a crucial part of the operation of the unit.  When the damage is at a minimum you can have the fins combed out, but if the damage is severe the coil or unit will need to be replaced.  This will depend on the availability of a replacement coil for older units.

new technology

A dramatic influx of new technology has revolutionized the heating and air conditioning industry, making home and business environments cleaner, more environmentally friendly and less costly to operate.

With the phase out of CFC refrigerants the refrigeration and air conditioning industry has adopt non-ozone depleting alternatives that work just as well as CFCs but are much cleaner. Compressor and system manufacturers continue to seek products that work without damaging our environment.

A programmable thermostat can save homeowners hundreds of dollars a year and the efficiency of even the most basic home heating and air conditioning systems have literally skyrocketed.

And the introduction of custom-made, intelligent indoor weather systems save customers money and dramatically enhance their home environments by offering efficient automated management of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, humidity and air quality systems.

Your choices have never been broader or more exciting!

Why go green?

The geothermal heat pump, also known as the ground source heat pump, is a highly efficient renewable energy technology that is gaining wide acceptance for both residential and commercial applications. Geothermal heat pumps are used for space heating and cooling, as well as water heating. The greatest advantage of these systems is that they work by concentrating naturally existing heat, rather than producing heat through combustion of fossil fuels. Installing a Geothermal system not only saves you money on your energy bills, but it also contributes to the efforts of reducing our overall fossil fuel consumption. A recent study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency shows that geothermal systems have the lowest impact on our environment. They have no combustion or indoor air pollutants. Studies have shown, by installing or converting to a Geothermal Heat Pump System, it benefits our environment in reducing fossil fuels, and has the equivalent of removing two motor vehicles emissions or replacing 750 trees!

For many years, there have been articles published by some very reputable sources praising the environmental benefits of a geothermal heating and/or cooling system. With the rising cost of energy, and the need to be less dependent on fossil fuels, the benefits of geothermal systems are becoming more obvious to consumers and are voiced in the press more frequently. The following are excerpts from some of these articles.

Dirty filters can cause costly repairs

The hot weather is quickly approaching and there are things to consider about getting your air conditioner system to work more efficiently.  With hot weather comes the concern about getting our a/c units or evaporated coolers serviced to make sure that they are ready for when the temperatures reach 100+ degrees.  Please also remember your filters, when you have a clean filter it will allow air flow to move through your system to work more efficiently.

The filters in our central air conditioning unit are an imperative part of having the unit work efficiently. Without the proper filter it enables the dust, dirt, hair, and many other small particles to become lodged in the evaporative coil. When this happens, it restricts the flow of air to the coil decreasing the efficiency of the unit resulting in the compressor having to work harder.

In today’s market there are many different kinds of filters to choose from. The filters are rated through a system called a MERV rating and range from 1 to 16. At the lower end of the efficiency spectrum a fiberglass panel filter may achieve a MERV rating of a 4 or 5; where in a hospital the filters used achieve a MERV rating of 13 to 14. One caution when using a higher MERV rating filter is the problems with greater airflow resistance or some call it static pressure. As the filter efficiency increases so does the static pressure which forces the system fan moter to work harder as it pushes the air through the filter resulting in a increased energy consumption.

R-22 Freon Restrictions | Clean Air Act

We have received some concerns regarding the PHASEOUT of R-22 refrigerant due to some information that our competitors have sent out stating that “your old air conditioner is officially obsolete”.  At this time we would like to clarify exactly what this means to you as a “homeowner “ and us as your “contractor.”

This act was established in 1987 from the Montreal Protocol to be carried out in the U.S. through the Title VI of the Clean Air Act.  R-22 refrigerant (also known as HCFC-22) has been proven to contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.  What this means for consumers is that R-22 will continue to be available for servicing the older units until January 1, 2020.

After that date refrigerant that has been recovered and recycled/reclaimed will be allowed beyond 2020 to service existing units, but the chemical manufacturers will no longer be allowed to produce R-22 Freon.  As this Freon is gradually phased out it is being replaced by several alternatives that have been evaluated for there effects on human health and of course our environment.  One such refrigerant is R-410A (which is manufactured and sold under various trade such as SUVA 410A and Forane 410A).  This is the refrigerant that KINGCO uses as well as continuing  to offer the R-22 refrigerant as long as it is available.

Therefore, when a consumer replaces an Air conditioner or heat pump unit in today’s market they will be purchasing a highly energy-efficient system, resulting in savings for the homeowner.  Products made today with EPA’s Energy Star label are estimated to save the homeowner between 10% to 40% on their heating and cooling costs every year.  At this time there are incentives available to make purchasing a new unit a great decision for your home and our atmosphere, but also easier on our wallets.
